IASW Supervision Directory
The IASW is aware that some social workers do not have access to supervision from a suitably qualified social worker and so need to seek supervision from outside their agency. Hence the IASW offers guidance for social workers in relation to private supervision.
In 2016 the IASW developed a working document, Promoting Quality Professional Supervision ‘IASW Standards for Social Workers’ for members seeking guidance in relation to professional supervision. A copy of this document can be found in the ‘downloads’ section on this page

- Required to work within the terms of The Code of Ethics and The Code of Practice
- Required to work within the terms of CORU's Code of Professional Conduct & Ethics for Social Workers
- Obliged to follow the IASW Guidance on Private Supervision
- Must have their own Professional Indemnity Insurance & Fitness to Practice Legal Expenses Cover
